Will be our first Street Stewards/Escondido Shines group pickup of our Caltrans Adoption of the 15N cloverleafs at Via Rancho Parkway! Nanci and I had safety training with Caltrans a couple weeks back and we are ready to go. We will meet at the Westfield North County Mall parking lot that is diagonally across from the cloverleafs and walk from there.

Take the Westfield Way entrance to the mall, which is the south entrance directly across from the 15N offramp at Via Rancho Pkwy, make a right at the “T”, and then your first right. Since it’s warming up figure we will try starting a little earlier. I have safety vests, helmets, gloves, bags, but need everyone to wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes.

RSVP not mandatory, but it helps me to know if you think you can make it. Need all to watch the below link for safety training and we will have a review before we head to the site.

November 14th, 2021

We are ON for the next group pickup Sunday, Nov 14 at 10AM!

We will meet in the parking lot behind the McDonalds that is near CCP and Mission. Our goal this time is to finish the southwest end of the Center City Pkwy and 78 interchanges and pick up along CCP the short distance along the way. If the rest of the interchange area is pretty clean, we also hope to be able to pick up under the 78 overpass on Escondido Blvd--an area badly needing attention.

We have a handful of Rotarians committed, and we'd love to get Street Stewards really involved to match their involvement!

Please RSVP directly to Scott at mnyrds@cox.net by 11/11 so the Rotarians can make sure to have enough pickers, safety vests, etc.

If you can’t attend this one, pencil in the December Second Saturday (12/11 at 9:00) for our next group pickup and we'll be working on getting pickers and vests for future pickups so RSVPing will not be needed.

October 9th, 2021

Escondido Street Stewards are joining the Escondido Rotary on our first SECOND SATURDAY STREET STEWARD PICKUP. Plan is for a group pickup on every month’s Second Saturday where we will target problem areas around Escondido. Feel free to suggest areas needing our help.

In October (10/9 at 9:00 AM), we will join the Rotary, coordinated with Caltrans, cleaning the on and off ramps/green areas at Route 78 from Centre City Pkwy. The Rotary has been cleaning these areas quarterly for five years.

Since this is freeway proximity pickup, we will meet promptly at 9:00 AM for a required one-time safety briefing, and then work for about 90 minutes. Meet next to the community garden entrance at the east end of W Lincoln Ave, just west of CCP. From El Norte Pkwy, turn south onto Morning View Dr., follow Morning View until it dead ends at Lincoln, left on Lincoln and park near the community garden entrance.

Caltrans will provide vests, gloves, hard hats, trash pickers and bags. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, long sleeve shirts and pants. Caltrans COVID protocols will be enforced. We have had good turnouts for our N. Quince St and Westside Park area recent pickups and hope to keep the momentum going so spread the word.

September 18th, 2021

Meeting at 9:00 on S Spruce St in front of Westside Park. If registered we can supply a litter picker and safety vest. If not registered please bring your own picker and wear bright colored clothing. Please see Safety guidelines on Street Steward page.

Any questions contact Scott at mnyrds@cox.net or 858-243-1773.
